Broadcasting legend Pat Summerall passed away at age 82 on Tuesday, April 16 in a Dallas hospital after suffering a heart attack while recovering from hip surgery.

Summerall, a former kicker for the New York Giants, was laid to rest at Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, Texas on Saturday. Among those who addressed the mourners was John Madden, who spent 22 seasons in the booth with Summerall, forming the greatest duo in sports broadcasting history.

“I got up this morning and I thought, ‘Pat, I need you,’” Madden said, according to the Star-Telegram. “I couldn’t get the tie straightened, a button buttoned. It was the same old thing.”

During their years together, which included eight Super Bowls, Summerall was often the straight man to Madden’s colorful color commentary. For that, Madden referred to Summerall as his “John Wayne” and “Walter Cronkite” for being the calming presence in the booth.

Madden’s eulogy was, as expected, colorful, with the Hall of Fame head coach sprinkling in words like “damn” and “hell” from the pulpit, but not before letting Summerall know how he felt about him.

“I know Pat’s up there saying, ‘brevity, brevity, brevity.’ But just one more time I’m going to talk over you,” Madden said as he looked upward with teary eyes.

“Bye, Pat. Rest in Peace. I love you.”

Brazil worried about stadium gentrification

(Courtesy of ABC News) A New York television news anchor fought with his wife and then choked her at their home and threatened her even after he was arrested, police said.

Officers received a call early Sunday morning from WCBS-TV anchor Rob Morrison’s mother-in-law about what was going on at the couple’s home in Darien, police said. Morrison had been belligerent toward his wife, CBS financial news anchor Ashley Morrison, throughout the night and ended up with his hands wrapped around her neck, leaving red marks, they said.

The arresting officers said they heard Rob Morrison threaten to do his wife more harm while they were processing him. They said his wife didn’t seek medical attention.

A police mug shot of Morrison shows him with what appear to be a bloody cut on the bridge of his nose and a nasty bruise on his swollen bottom lip.

Morrison, who posted $100,000 bond, was due in court Tuesday. He faced charges of strangulation, threatening and disorderly conduct.

The couple’s attorney said in a statement Monday they are cooperating fully with authorities in this “unfortunate incident.”

“The Morrisons are confident that a full review of this matter will show that the allegations have been greatly exaggerated,” attorney Robert Skovgaard said in the statement.

Rob Morrison, who has been a combat correspondent and was a reporter and anchor for WNBC-TV, anchors WCBS-TV’s news programs “This Morning” and “News at Noon.” Ashley Morrison worked for Bloomberg Television before joining “CBS MoneyWatch.” The couple has a young son.

(Courtesy of The ABC News) Khloe Kardashian does not appear to be having a good week. First, reports surfaced that she and husband Lamar Odom have taken a trial separation from one another, and now reports claim that she has been fired from X Factor! Can things get any worse for her?

As if battling all the marital trouble rumors surrounding Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom were not enough, Khloe has taken another blow, as sources came out today to reveal that she has been fired from The X Factor. According to The New York Post, a show insider told them: “They have asked Mario Lopez to come back (next season), but not Khloe.”

Khloe Kardashian signed on to The X Factor with no prior hosting experience, and it showed as she often appeared to be a bundle of nerves. Kardashian is not the first person to get axed from the show, as Britney Spears was also let go. Rumor has it that the show is in talks with Cheryl Cole, who was fired by Simon Cowell in the past, but no one knows if that is for a hosting spot or to sit on the juding panel.

L.A. Reid also announced back in December that he would not be returning to the series, instead he wants to focus more on Epic records. So far, the only one who may be returning is Demi Lovato (as well as Simon Cowell). A rep for Fox declined to comment on any of the news – yet.
